Our Story

From the very start we have been driven by curiosity and a desire to make things better

2011

Xuvasi Founded in the United Kingdom

After a career spanning both commercial and military domains, our Technical Founder established Xuvasi to conduct cutting-edge Research & Development programmes for and on behalf of UK Ministry of Defence and other Government Agencies.

2013

Core Cascade Engine Invented

Developed under DEFCON-705 terms for the UK Ministry of Defence Cyber Situational Awareness research programme, Cascade becomes the foundation stone of today's Isophene platform. DEFCON-705 terms mean that, to this day, UK Crown Agencies have free licences to use the Cascade component.

2014

Resilio Founded in the United Kingdom, Xuvasi Continues to Drive Product Scope

Founded to commercialise and extend the Cascade Engine, Resilio is awarded Best UK Cybersecurity Startup by techUK and exhibits at the Transport Security Show in London. Xuvasi continues to win follow-on research funding from Dstl, DASA, and InnovateUK to support applications in cybersecurity, data fusion, and intelligence analysis.

2015

Continuing Dual-Use Success

Resilio introduces applications for Smart Cities, Public Safety, Border Security, Police Integration, and Commercial Risk. A data integration component, Nexus, is developed to solve the problem that data simply cannot be delivered to Cascade quickly enough! In the military domain, Xuvasi engages through hackathons and development days: winning multiple awards and, in one maritime case, reducing analyst workload by 45 minutes every hour.

2016

Conversational Intelligence and Machine Learning

Building on extensive experience with machine learning and natural language processing, Resilio launches a conversational interface through which analysts and operators can covertly interact with the platform through voice or text. Extensions are added to the platform to allow third-party machine learning modules to be integrated into analytical pipelines in Cascade.

2017

Major Military Contract Win

Through a competitive process, Resilio is contracted to deliver it's platform as a core component of a major military intelligence programme. The platform provides secure, multi-layer, realtime data and analytical services that bridge public open-source data into an Above Secret environment. The platform is deployed to Microsoft Azure for UK MoD; is the only programme component to fully integrate with UK MoD Single Sign-On; passes a Red Team inspection without issue, and runs until the end of the programme with zero downtime.

2020

Isophene Founded in the United Kingdom

As the COVID-19 pandemic takes hold, Resilio is asked to leverage its platform in support of diagnostic testing. Isophene is established to bring together healthcare, operational, and technical expertise. Building on a platform that is flexible, extensible, and open-by-design, a fully functional diagnostic test and patient information management system is delivered in two months. Capable of integrating any diagnostic test and of linking into Electronic Health Records, ERP, and National Reporting systems, Isophene supports hundreds of thousands of tests that help keep major Film and TV studios working through the pandemic. The final solution encompasses multiple diagnostic tests, on-set test management, and both central and mobile laboratories, all supported through tablet and mobile apps for both workflow and patient management. The solution achives a 600% efficiency gain in terms of diagnostic tests conducted each day.

2021 - 22

The Focus on Isophene, Relocation to the UAE

Building on successes to date, Isophene UK relocates to Dubai. A long-standing partner steps up to become the Commercial Founder of Isophene and the business refocuses on three primary activities: National Security and Public Safety, Biosurveillance and Response, and Commercial Risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

The initial questions most people ask

1 What is an 'isophene'?

An isophene is the name given to a line drawn on a map that connects events occurring at the same time. While more typically used to connect events in nature, such as flowers blooming, we adopt a wider use that interconnects events of all kinds.

2 Why is there a map of Scotland at the top of this website?

It is not a traditional map of Scotland: it is the plot of a single month's worth of vessel position reports that very clearly recreates the physical coastal borders of Scotland, highlighting ports and other locations as a side effect. We refer to this as the 'Geography of Behaviour' and use it extensively to understand patterns of life, model behaviour, understand intent, and predict risks and threats even as they begin to emerge. The same technique can be applied to any entity that exhibits behaviours we can correlate.

3 What does 'wholly-owned intellectual property' mean?

This means that Isophene owns the intellectual property (such as designs, architectures, software code, interfaces, and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs)) of every component we use to deliver solutions. All precursor intellectual property created by Xuvasi and Resilio was transferred to Isophene in 2025. This is important because it creates a comprehensive portfolio that is fully controlled by Isophene. Having full control means that we understand every line of source code and can continue to evolve the portfolio without constraints.

1 What does 1.25 million events per second per node mean?

If you think of the workflow as acquiring raw data, converting that data into a common format, assessing what the data means (both in itself and in context), and then publishing events relating to the data and it's meaning, the Isophene Nexus module does that at the rate of 1.25 million events per second for each node (or server) that is deployed. That means that Nexus can ingest huge quantities of data, from a variety of sources, in order to deliver events that further assessments and decisions can be based upon. Moreover, the 'per node' aspect means that, if a customer requires it, Nexus can scale horizontally: doubling the throughput with each additional node.

2 What do you mean by 120ms global latency?

Isophene operates a distributed global messaging system that routes events from the Isophene Nexus module to subscribers worldwide. Subscribers include our internal systems as well as customer deployments and our mobile and desktop applications. As Isophene Nexus emits events, those events are sent over our global messaging system and are delivered, on average, within 120 milliseconds of being emitted. Think of this as 'WhatsApp' for events: a private messaging system that gets event information to wherever it is needed. This means that there is minimal delay from the time data is acquired to the time it can be employed to generate actionable insight. However, if Isophene is deployed within a customer organisation and operating on sovereign data, event distribution is at the wirespeed of the customer's network.

3 What are the update rates for the data feeds you use?

For the Isophene internal deployment, open-source data feeds are used to deliver a range of subscribable events, as well as assessed intelligence, to customers. Our primary feeds are updated at rates commensurate to the nature of the feed and/or the entity type the feed relates to. For example, if we provide an aircraft event feed then the update rate would be measured in seconds while a vessel event feed update rate would be measured in minutes. Other feeds will have different update rates on the same basis. Our entity and location based feeds, which represent aggregated events from multiple data sources that relate to a given entity or location, are updated as soon as a new event occurs regardless of the data source the event is from. For customer deployments against sovereign data, the update rate is entirely at each customer's discretion (although we do recommend thinking through the nature of the data source first!).

1 How do we deploy this platform?

The Isophene platform has been designed to support a wide range of deployment options. At the most basic level, customers can simply subscribe to event streams and assessed intelligence outputs from Isophene's internal deployment. Beyond that, because the Isophene platform has been designed as a set of modules, there is a sliding scale of capability deployment on the customer side: ranging from a pure web or mobile application client through to a full platform deployment. When software, as distinct from subscriptions, is licenced to a customer, it can be deployed on-premise or in the customer's chosen cloud. However, for sovereign applications, we strongly recommend reviewing the potential impact of the US CLOUD Act in relation to cloud deployments. We'd be happy to walk through what you want to achieve and define a deployment architecture that works.

2 Are there any third-party dependencies I need to be aware of?

The Isophene platform has no commercial third-party dependencies. We do not need, for example, Esri mapping or Microsoft SQL Server to deliver a functional solution. Where there are traditional dependencies, such as on databases or operating systems, we deliberately choose to build on top of permissively licenced open source software such as PostgreSQL and Ubuntu Linux. Of course, if you already have legacy third-party software that you have to maintain and if open standards permit, we are able to integrate with what you have already invested in. Our integration mindset allows you to create an event 'superlayer' over what you already have and, then, to use that as a foundation for future value.

3 Why deployment? Isn't this just Software-as-a-Service?

Good question! At the most basic level, you can subscribe to event streams and assessed intelligence outputs and pull those straight into your own systems. The next level up is very much a 'Software-as-a-Service' model, in that we host the application and you access and use it through a pure web or mobile client application. However, when you want to start incorporating your own sensitive or sovereign data and analyses, we strongly recommend that you operate your own instances of the relevant platform components: inside your network boundary (on-premise, cloud, or hybrid) and under your control.
